Reports to:                 Senior Scientist, Solar Cell Device

SUMMARY

Energy Materials Corporation is seeking a talented and passionate Solar PV Device Metrology Engineer to participate in technology development of thin film photovoltaic devices at our Rochester, NY facility. This exciting position will support the company’s accelerating commercialization of perovskite-based solar modules for production on high-speed roll-to-roll coating and printing equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Evaluate solar products with a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers, including partners at US National Labs, leading universities and both large corporations and small startup companies
  • Innovate and develop new metrology tools, techniques, and equipment for testing PV in an R&D lab
  • Discover and demonstrate solutions to technical issues limiting performance of high efficiency photovoltaic devices
  • Plan and execute experiments

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • MSc Degree (PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of research or industry experience in PV related process or equipment development
  • Track record of innovation and in solving complex technical problems
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic device physics
  • Working knowledge of solar cell fabrication methods
  • Strong lab skills and expertise in material and device characterizations including optical and electrical approaches such us photoluminescence, transmission/reflectance, quantum efficiency, current vs voltage and other similar measurements
  • Computer coding experience in Python, MATLAB, LabView or similar programming languages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Driven, hands-on individual with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary, multi-location team environment with ambitious goals and deadlines
